چکیده

Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) is mostly grown in Asia, which accounts for 86% of global production. However, its production under threat by salinity. Little known about genotypic responses to salinity sweet potato. Phenotypic or physiological processes linked salt tolerance that could be developed into a reliable screening tool assist breeding have not yet been In hydroponic cultivation system, 12 contrasting genotypes were subjected 0, 50, 100 and 150 mM root zone (RZS). Genotypic thresholds dry matter accumulation the slopes additional reduction when RZS increased beyond threshold determined. Sodium, chlorine potassium (K) determined from above-ground biomass correlated with found. levels linearly negatively difference tissue K content at 75 control levels. Based on ability retain high increasing RZS, we propose based these experimental data can distinguish between salt-tolerant salt-sensitive indicate potential yield level genotypes.

The ABC transporter ABCG1 is required for suberin formation in potato tuber periderm.

The lipid biopolymer suberin plays a major role as a barrier both at plant-environment interfaces and in internal tissues, restricting water and nutrient transport. In potato (Solanum tuberosum), tuber integrity is dependent on suberized periderm. Using microarray analyses, we identified ABCG1, encoding an ABC transporter, as a gene responsive to the pathogen-associated molecular pattern Pep-13...

Effect of initial soil salinity and subirrigation water salinity on potato tuber yield and size

A ®eld lysimeter study was conducted to investigate the effect of initial soil salinity and salinity level of brackish subirrigation water on tuber weight and tuber size of three potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) cultivars (Kennebec, Norland and Russet Burbank) under simulated arid conditions. Both saline and non-saline initial soil conditions were simulated in a total of 36 lysimeters. Eighteen ly...

Quantifying the three main components of salinity tolerance in cereals.

Salinity stress is a major factor inhibiting cereal yield throughout the world. Tolerance to salinity stress can be considered to contain three main components: Na(+) exclusion, tolerance to Na(+) in the tissues and osmotic tolerance. To date, most experimental work on salinity tolerance in cereals has focused on Na(+) exclusion due in part to its ease of measurement. It has become apparent, ho...

Lipoxygenase is involved in the control of potato tuber development.

Plant lipoxygenases (LOXs) are a functionally diverse class of dioxygenases implicated in physiological processes such as growth, senescence, and stress-related responses. LOXs incorporate oxygen into their fatty acid substrates and produce hydroperoxide fatty acids that are precursors of jasmonic acid and related compounds. Here, we report the involvement of the tuber-associated LOXs, designat...

Tuber starch amylose content is associated with cold-induced sweetening in potato

Cold-induced sweetening (CIS) is the accumulation of reducing sugars in potato tubers at low storage temperatures. It is undesirable because it results in dark fry products. Our study evaluated the relationship between genetic resistance to CIS and two starch parameters, amylose content and starch granule size. We found that the amylose content in four CIS-resistant varieties was higher than th...
